Senior Residential Designer / Technical Designer

Kristin Burke Interiors is a full-service residential interior design firm based in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. We specialize in elevated, timeless homes that feel collected, personal, and intentional.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Residential Designer / Technical Designer to join our growing team.

This person will play a critical role in translating design concepts into thoughtful, highly detailed drawings and documentation while collaborating closely with our design team, clients, architects, builders, and trades.

Role:

Design + Technical Documentation

  • Develop residential floor plans and space plans

  • Create detailed kitchen, bath, millwork and cabinetry layouts

  • Produce interior elevations and detailed construction drawings

  • Develop finish plans, tile layouts and related documentation

  • Prepare drawings for builder and trade coordination

  • Review architectural and structural drawings

  • Identify design and construction issues before they become problems

  • Assist with field measurements and site verification

  • Maintain organized, accurate project documentation

Design Development

  • Translate the firm's design direction into thoughtful, buildable documentation

  • Space planning/furniture layouts

  • Assist in finish selections and material development

  • Assist with sourcing and specification of fixtures, hardware, plumbing, lighting and other materials

  • Create client presentation materials and design boards

  • Contribute creative ideas while maintaining the overall KBI aesthetic

Project Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Principal Designer and project team

  • Communicate with architects, builders, contractors and vendors

  • Participate in project meetings and site visits

  • Help coordinate design decisions throughout construction

  • Assist with maintaining project schedules and deadlines

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients and trade partners

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 3+ years of residential interior design experience

  • Strong proficiency in CAD and Chief Architect

  • Ability to independently produce high-quality residential drawings

  • Strong understanding of construction and how homes are actually built

  • Experience with kitchens, bathrooms, cabinetry and millwork

  • Excellent spatial reasoning and attention to detail

  • Ability to read architectural drawings

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

Strongly Preferred:

  • Experience with luxury residential design

  • New construction and/or large-scale renovation experience

  • Experience working directly with builders and architects

  • Experience producing comprehensive construction drawing sets

  • Knowledge of cabinetry, millwork, tile and architectural detailing

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and/or similar presentation software
