Why should I hire an Interior Designer?

When investing in your home, whether you’re planning on putting $10,000 into furniture and décor or $100,000+ into a remodel, having an Interior Designer is an insurance policy for both functionality and aesthetics. With the plethora of options available for each and every selection you’ll make, the more elements you’re balancing, the easier it is to miss-select without a design professional. In addition to optimizing your financial investment, our team is here to save you headaches in the construction process by working hand-in-hand with architects, contractors and trade professionals to advocate on your behalf and make sure the details are executed appropriately. We are also trained on everything from the pros and cons of various  material options, paint colors, layout and space planning, and lighting selections. Without a trained designer it’s very easy for updates to become costly and overly stressful; we are here to help alleviate that stress and make sure your project is done right!

When is the best time to hire an interior designer?

We suggest hiring an interior designer before or around the time of hiring an architect, builder, or general contractor. A knowledgeable designer enhances the project and works to ensure the end result delivers on your vision. Starting a large home project without an interior designer is like making a movie without a director. There’s no one holding the full vision along with its many details and no one sharing information with the team in a way they are used to processing it. With a designer on board, you have someone managing all the decisions and who knows precisely how all of the many pieces of your large project puzzle impact each other. An interior designer takes the big vision with all its small intricacies and orchestrates them to create a beautiful end result.

How long will my project take?

There are many factors that influence how long a project takes because every space and scope are unique, as are our clients. Project length largely depends on the scope of the project, the level of project management needed, and the decisiveness of our clients. We have worked on projects that range from four months to two years.

What do you charge for your services?

Every project is incredibly unique. Our pricing depends on the size and scope of your project. Often we will charge a flat fee for Design work and an hourly fee for project management. If charging hourly, we will give you an estimate of hours based on our prior experience and our in-depth exploration of your project goals and scope.

How do you budget for Interior Design Services?

The budget is where your project’s realistic picture begins, and we cannot start a project without one. Your budget is the roadmap that shows us the right lanes to navigate in finding and delivering the best for your home. We will walk through the process of estimating your investment based on our prior experience and analysis of past projects. Most of our clients will know how much they want to invest but may not know what is reasonable to spend on furnishings and fees within their project scope. We guide you through all of this with utmost transparency and design to your budget level.

Is any project too small for your Design Team?

Part of our process is to not only make sure we are good fit for you but that your project makes sense for us too. Typically we work on projects that involve renovation and furnishing for 2+ rooms. However, there are many variables including project scope and size that influence this decision.

Do you share your trade discount?

We share a portion of our trade discounts; this percentage relies heavily on our vendor relationships/the terms and pricing offered to Kristin Burke Interiors. We pride ourselves on providing competitive pricing for high quality materials.

What does Full-Service mean?

Full-Service Deign is entirely turnkey from start to finish. We will create floor plans, design boards, elevations, renderings, and procure finish samples to bring your design vision to life. You’ll get to see, feel and interact with all of the elements to eliminate the guesswork as to the final product of your home’s transformation. Next, we take care of all the ordering, procurement, site visits, communication with contractors, and finally, installation!

Can I buy an item myself if I find one that is similar or cheaper?

Interior Designing is much like hiring a baker to make a wedding cake. You trust they are buying the highest quality ingredients and mixing, sculpting, and baking it all at the perfect temperature and will deliver exactly what you budgeted and dreamed of. We are also a service, and part of the magic we deliver is keeping the original intent intact throughout the process. We work extremely hard to ensure all the many moving pieces come together at the exact right moments without sacrificing time, quality, or money. It’s tempting to do your own shopping to save money. Yet, in the end, experience has shown us it inevitably costs our clients in scale and quality mistakes, which results in buying items twice and experiencing frustration from the extra costs.

Do you work with out-of-state clients?

Yes! Did you see our TENNESSEE PROJECT? We will absolutely travel for out-of-state for projects! We take on remote projects that make sense for our team; additional travel expenses will apply.

Does your Design Proposal include the cost of construction?

Your Interior Design Proposal does NOT include the cost of services from contractors including architectural, plumbing, lighting, and engineering contractors and third party vendors. We can help you obtain bids from licensed professionals, but cannot estimate construction and trade costs. We leave this estimating up to the trade professionals and do not want to throw out a number that may not be accurate.

Do you work with certain contractors only?

We work with the contractors who are hired by the client. We prefer to use professionals that we have worked with on previous projects and can provide recommendations when necessary; however, we are always open to working with someone new as long as they are licensed, qualified and produce quality work.

What if my design style is different from the project photos I see on your website ?

One of the most important parts of our design process is the time we take to get to know you; we take a deep dive into what you love, need, and ultimately obsess over. We’re able to uniquely translate this and give you a beautiful space. To get there, we set up meetings to establish direction through inspirational elements. In those meetings, we ask lots of questions and listen closely to your answers. Your answers tell us so much of who you are, what matters to you, what you love and what’s sentimental to you. After we get to know you and your project goals, we create imagery that communicate our ideas into a new vision for your home.
